Digital Equity

All Alaskans Will Have a Brighter Future With Digital Equity

Digital equity is not a luxury but a necessity. It ensures all communities and individuals have access to the information they need to participate fully in society.

Did you know:

  • According to BroadbandNow's annual rankings, Alaska has the 51st-best internet coverage, speed, and availability.
  • Nine percent of Alaskans lack a gadget or internet connection.
  • Eighty percent of Alaskans are unable to afford broadband at a price of sixty dollars a month or less, not including government subsidies and promotions.
  • A broadband package that is deemed "high speed" internet—that is, one that has a minimum download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 3 Mbps—is unaffordable for 21% of Alaskans.

Across the state, listening sessions are being held by digital equity teams. The initiative aims to gather the perspectives of Alaskans who are underprivileged, elderly, incarcerated, veterans, disabled, learning English, belonging to a racial or ethnic minority, or living in a remote place. Approximately 80% of Alaskans belong to one or more of these categories.

We think that having internet access to family, healthcare, employment, education, and other resources should be a right for every Alaskan. We need your help in order to make this happen. We need you to participate in the discussion around digital equity. We can close the digital divide with resources like money, time, and the help of people in Alaska like you.
